Axel's take: 8.9/10

A strong central Dublin pick, with standout staff and a few room-layout compromises. a design-led 4-star city hotel beside Temple Bar, scored for what it is.

NYX Christchurch is a design-led 4-star city hotel that gets the essentials right: comfortable beds, consistently praised cleanliness and a genuinely walkable location near Dublin Castle and Temple Bar. Now part of Leonardo rather than Hard Rock, it suits travelers who want character without sacrificing comfort. Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, and many find the rooms surprisingly quiet for this central setting.

The compromises are mostly practical. Several guests find rooms compact, and some bathroom layouts use frosted-glass partitions that offer limited privacy—worth checking before sharing with friends. There’s no gym, parking is off-site and breakfast isn’t included in every booking. We’d choose it for a sightseeing weekend or couples’ city break; skip it if generous room space, bathroom privacy or fitness facilities are priorities.

• Best for: couples on a city break; first-time Dublin sightseers; travelers exploring without a car

• Watch out for: some rooms feel compact; limited bathroom privacy in some layouts; no gym or on-site parking

• Location: Excellent for walking to Dublin Castle, Christ Church Cathedral and Temple Bar.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and distinctive decor; check room size and bathroom configuration.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor reviews.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff earn repeated praise across sites, despite occasional check-in complaints.

• Amenities: The Exchange bar and restaurant, air conditioning, Nespresso machines and free Wi-Fi; no gym.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast depends on your booking; nearby parking is paid and must be arranged separately.
