Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong Dublin city-break base, provided you pack light and choose your room carefully. a modern 4-star city hotel with compact rooms near St Stephen’s Green, scored for what it is.

Marlin is a modern 4-star city hotel that gets the city-break essentials right: a walkable location near Grafton Street and St Stephen’s Green, comfortable beds and reliably clean rooms. We'd choose it for a short Dublin stay rather than a spacious retreat. Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the location and helpful staff, while the sociable lobby, coffee horsebox and bar give you somewhere to linger outside your room.

The main compromise is space. Entry-level Cosy King rooms are genuinely compact, and guests across sites flag the limited room for luggage and moving around. Book a larger category if sharing for several nights. Breakfast inclusion depends on your booking, and parking is paid at a nearby public garage. We'd skip the smallest rooms for a luggage-heavy trip or extended stay.

• Best for: couples on short city breaks; sightseeing without a car; solo travelers who pack light

• Watch out for: compact entry-level rooms; breakfast not always included; paid off-site parking

• Location: Central and walkable for Grafton Street, St Stephen’s Green, restaurants and the Luas.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and modern styling; Cosy King rooms sacrifice floor space.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength in guest feedback across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor.

• Service: Staff earn frequent praise; self-service check-in has assistance available.

• Amenities: Restaurant, bar, coffee horsebox, free Wi-Fi, gym and shared working spaces.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; nearby Q-Park parking costs extra and requires ticket validation.
