Axel's take: 8.0/10

A comfortable Dublin base, provided you can live without air conditioning. a practical 4-star city hotel near Grand Canal Dock, scored for what it is.

Maldron Pearse Street is a practical 4-star rather than a luxury stay, and we'd pick it for theatre trips and straightforward city breaks. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise spacious, clean rooms and helpful staff; Booking.com's overall ratings support that picture. Bord Gáis Energy Theatre is a short walk away, while Grafton Street takes roughly 15–20 minutes. Family rooms with two double beds are another useful draw.

The biggest catch is the lack of bedroom air conditioning: summer guests across several sites report uncomfortable heat. Street noise can complicate sleeping with windows open, so request a room away from the road. Breakfast generally lands well, though some recent Tripadvisor guests describe disappointing quality. Parking costs extra and cannot be reserved. We'd skip it if cool, quiet nights or extensive four-star facilities are essential.

• Best for: Bord Gáis theatre trips; families sharing a room; city breaks on foot

• Watch out for: No bedroom air conditioning; Street noise in road-facing rooms; Limited paid parking

• Location: Handy for Grand Canal Dock and the theatre; allow roughly 15–20 minutes to Grafton Street.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable, including two-double family rooms; summer overheating is a recurring complaint.

• Cleanliness: Broadly strong across Booking.com and Expedia, with recent guests frequently praising clean rooms.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff dominate the feedback, despite some less positive Tripadvisor reports.

• Amenities: Restaurant, bar, breakfast and free Wi-Fi; the official FAQ confirms no gym or meeting facilities.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is charged, first come, first served, with a 1.95-metre height restriction; breakfast inclusion depends on your booking.
