Axel's take: 7.9/10

A convenient pre-flight stop, with clean rooms but uneven soundproofing. a practical 4-star airport hotel within walking distance of the terminals, scored for what it is.

Maldron Hotel Dublin Airport is a practical 4-star airport hotel, and we'd pick it for an early departure rather than a Dublin city break. You can walk to the terminals or use the free 24-hour shuttle. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff, while breakfast earns plenty of positive mentions. Its strongest selling point is making the airport part of your trip easier.

The rooms are more functional than special, and several guests find the bedrooms or bathrooms small. Corridor and adjoining-room noise crops up in reviews, so light sleepers should request a room away from busy passageways and connecting doors. Parking costs extra and needs advance booking; there is no on-site gym or pool. We'd skip it for a leisurely holiday, but it's a solid overnight stop.

• Best for: early-morning departures; overnight airport stopovers; families flying together

• Watch out for: corridor and adjoining-room noise; some compact rooms and bathrooms; paid parking requiring advance booking

• Location: On the airport campus, walkable to both terminals; better for flights than city sightseeing.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and air conditioning; some rooms feel compact, with uneven noise isolation.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent reviews, despite occasional individual complaints.

• Service: Generally friendly and efficient, though some Tripadvisor guests report less helpful interactions.

• Amenities: Free 24-hour shuttle, restaurant, bar and Wi-Fi; no on-site leisure facilities.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is charged and must be pre-booked; early check-in can cost extra.
