Axel's take: 7.7/10

A friendly Ballsbridge base with a proper pub, but rooms need some tolerance. a traditional, family-run 3-star in Ballsbridge, scored for what it is.

The Lansdowne is a traditional, family-run 3-star in Ballsbridge, strongest as a straightforward base for Aviva Stadium events and Dublin weekends. We'd choose it for the neighborhood, welcoming staff and downstairs Den Bar rather than stylish bedrooms. Booking.com and Expedia guests generally praise cleanliness and helpful service, while recent Tripadvisor reviews also highlight comfortable beds and good breakfasts. The Aviva is around ten minutes away on foot; central shopping and sightseeing take a longer walk.

The compromises are old-fashioned interiors, some small bedrooms and bathrooms, and recurring reports of overly warm rooms. Recent guests also mention noise from courtyards or neighboring rooms. There is no lift, so stairs are a meaningful drawback, not a minor detail. We'd skip it if you need step-free access, reliably cool sleeping conditions or a polished modern hotel.

• Best for: Aviva Stadium concert and rugby trips; Travelers who enjoy a traditional pub; Short stays in Ballsbridge

• Watch out for: No lift; stairs to bedrooms; Some small, dated and overly warm rooms; Room-dependent noise

• Location: Walkable Ballsbridge setting near pubs, restaurants, Aviva Stadium and the RDS; outside the central sightseeing core.

• Rooms: Traditional furnishings and variable space; small bathrooms, warmth and sound insulation attract recurring criticism.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Usually friendly and helpful, though some recent guests report uneven restaurant service and problem handling.

• Amenities: Den Bar, full Irish breakfast, free Wi-Fi and in-room tea and coffee; breakfast inclusion depends on the booking.

• Fees and surprises: Confirm parking availability and arrangements directly; guests report limited options and costly daytime street parking.
