Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong-value Dublin base, provided you’re comfortable with a busy pub downstairs. A comfortable, value-focused Wetherspoon pub hotel on Camden Street, scored for what it is.

Keavans Port is a value-focused Wetherspoon pub hotel, not a conventional full-service four-star. Its connected historic buildings give it character, while Camden Street puts restaurants, nightlife and tram links close by. We'd pick it for a city break: Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, comfortable rooms and helpful reception staff, and Booking.com’s overall rating is strong. The downstairs pub makes breakfast and casual meals convenient and good value.

The trade-off is that the pub is central to the experience, not tucked away. Recent guests across several sites describe crowded evenings, confusing routes to rooms and noise that depends on room position; many others report quiet nights. Request a room away from the bar. Housekeeping consistency also draws repeated criticism on Tripadvisor. We'd skip it for a hushed, service-led stay.

• Best for: Value-minded city breakers; Couples exploring Dublin on foot; Travelers who enjoy a lively pub

• Watch out for: Room-dependent pub and street noise; Maze-like routes through connected buildings; Mixed housekeeping reports

• Location: Lively Camden Street, with nearby Luas links and walkable access to central sights.

• Rooms: Comfortable, air-conditioned rooms; request a position away from the busy bar.

• Cleanliness: Broadly praised, although several recent guests report inconsistent stayover cleaning.

• Service: Reception earns frequent praise; experiences with pub staff are more mixed.

• Amenities: Pub restaurant, paid breakfast, free Wi-Fi, garden and accessible room options.

• Fees and surprises: No on-site parking; paid parking is a walk away, and breakfast costs extra.
