Axel's take: 8.9/10

A strong luxury choice for space and warm service, away from central Dublin’s bustle. a traditional five-star hotel in leafy Ballsbridge, scored for what it is.

InterContinental Dublin is a traditional five-star in Ballsbridge, better suited to a relaxed stay than stepping straight into Dublin’s busiest streets. We'd pick it for spacious rooms, comfortable beds and genuinely welcoming service: recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise those strengths, alongside high standards of cleanliness. The indoor pool, spa and gardens give it more downtime appeal than a sightseeing-only base. Simmons restaurant opened in September 2026 after a complete redesign.

The main compromise is location. You're well placed for the RDS and near Sandymount DART station, but central sightseeing usually means transport or a substantial walk. Parking costs extra, breakfast isn't included with every booking, and children have designated pool hours. We'd skip it if your priority is nightlife or having Dublin’s headline sights on your doorstep.

• Best for: couples wanting a quieter luxury stay; families who value spacious rooms and a pool; RDS event and conference visitors

• Watch out for: outside the main sightseeing district; parking and some breakfasts cost extra; designated children's swimming hours

• Location: Leafy Ballsbridge beside the RDS; Sandymount DART station is nearby, but the centre isn't on the doorstep.

• Rooms: Generous proportions, comfortable beds and marble bathrooms; the overall style is traditional rather than cutting-edge.

• Cleanliness: Strong aggregate cleanliness scores on Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia support a broadly reassuring picture.

• Service: Warm, attentive staff are among the most consistent strengths in recent guest feedback.

• Amenities: Heated indoor pool, spa, sauna, steam room, 24-hour gym, gardens and several dining spaces.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is charged; check breakfast inclusion and children's pool times before booking.
