Axel's take: 8.7/10

A welcoming central Dublin base, provided you can live with some noise. a traditional independent 3-star beside Christ Church Cathedral, scored for what it is.

Harding Hotel is a traditional 3-star beside Christ Church Cathedral, and a strong pick for exploring Dublin on foot. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the helpful staff, clean rooms and convenient location near Dublin Castle and Temple Bar. Rooms are practical rather than stylish, with air conditioning, fridges and tea-making facilities. Darkey Kelly’s pub and Copper Alley Bistro make food and evening entertainment particularly easy.

The trade-off is sound: live music, street activity and cathedral bells can intrude, although some recent guests report quiet stays after requesting a quieter room. Ask ahead rather than assuming every room sleeps equally well. Dated furnishings and small, older bathrooms also recur in feedback. We'd choose it for friendly service and sightseeing convenience, but skip it if silence or contemporary interiors are priorities.

• Best for: first-time Dublin sightseers; couples and friends enjoying pub evenings; travelers prioritizing friendly service

• Watch out for: pub noise and cathedral bells; dated furnishings and some small bathrooms; paid off-site parking

• Location: Excellent walking base beside Christ Church Cathedral, close to Dublin Castle and Temple Bar.

• Rooms: Comfortable, air-conditioned rooms with fridges; furnishings and bathrooms can feel dated.

• Cleanliness: Consistently praised across recent guest feedback, despite older interiors.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff are a standout across several review sites.

• Amenities: Darkey Kelly’s pub, Copper Alley Bistro, free Wi-Fi, a lift and 24-hour reception.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra; nearby Q-Park parking is paid, with advance booking required for the hotel discount.
