Axel's take: 8.6/10

Stylish boutique luxury with personal service, a little removed from Dublin’s busiest sights. a five-star boutique hotel in a leafy Dublin neighbourhood, scored for what it is.

Dylan is a five-star boutique hotel in a former nurses’ home off Baggot Street, and a strong pick for a more residential Dublin stay. Its colourful interiors have personality, while Tripadvisor and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds, cleanliness and welcoming staff. Recent Expedia reviews reinforce that picture. We'd choose it for an intimate atmosphere rather than grand-hotel scale, with inviting bars and The Eddison restaurant adding to the appeal.

The trade-off is convenience: the main sightseeing streets require a walk or taxi rather than being on your doorstep. Some rooms feel compact, and occasional reports of slow breakfast or bar service matter at this level, although praise is much more common. Parking costs extra. We'd skip it if you want to step straight into the busiest sightseeing streets or expect uniformly spacious rooms.

• Best for: couples seeking boutique luxury; travellers who prefer a residential neighbourhood; Aviva Stadium visitors

• Watch out for: a walk or taxi to the busiest sightseeing areas; some compact rooms; occasional slow breakfast and bar service

• Location: Leafy setting off Baggot Street, convenient for neighbourhood restaurants and Aviva Stadium rather than doorstep sightseeing.

• Rooms: Individually styled rooms with much-praised beds; check the room category if space matters.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across guest feedback, including strong Booking.com cleanliness ratings.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff attract widespread praise, with occasional lapses in dining service.

• Amenities: The Eddison restaurant, cocktail bars, terraces, free Wi-Fi and a residents-only 24-hour gym.

• Fees and surprises: Valet parking and pets incur charges; pet-friendly rooms are limited and require advance confirmation.
