Axel's take: 8.3/10

A welcoming northside base, provided you choose the right room. a traditional 4-star neighborhood hotel in Drumcondra, scored for what it is.

Dublin Skylon is a traditional 4-star in Drumcondra: a strong pick for friendly service, reliable cleanliness and straightforward bus connections rather than city-center sightseeing on foot. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, comfortable beds and clean rooms, while Booking.com’s category scores reinforce those strengths. The bar and grill makes eating in convenient, and Croke Park is around a 20-minute walk away.

The main catch is room choice. Air conditioning is not universal: the hotel specifically advertises air-conditioned King Rooms, while summer guests report warm rooms elsewhere, including family rooms. Some Tripadvisor guests also find the decor dated. Parking costs extra and spaces are limited; there is no airport shuttle. We’d choose it for a practical northside stay, but skip it if walk-everywhere sightseeing or guaranteed cooling in every room matters most.

• Best for: Croke Park eventgoers; travelers comfortable using buses; northside business stays

• Watch out for: air conditioning depends on room category; city-center sightseeing requires transport or a long walk; limited paid parking

• Location: Drumcondra base with nearby airport and city buses; around 20 minutes on foot to Croke Park.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds earn praise; decor varies, and air-conditioned King Rooms are the safer warm-weather choice.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest reviews and Booking.com category ratings.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception and restaurant staff receive repeated praise.

• Amenities: Bar and grill, breakfast, free Wi-Fi and paid EV charging; no airport shuttle.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and EV charging cost extra; parking spaces are limited, and breakfast inclusion depends on the booking.
