Axel's take: 8.3/10

A friendly, stylish Dublin base, provided you can live with compact rooms. a design-led mid-range hotel near Croke Park, scored for what it is.

Dublin One is a design-led mid-range hotel near Croke Park, better suited to a short city break than a spacious, full-service four-star stay. It's a strong pick for comfortable beds, modern bathrooms and welcoming staff: Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise those basics, with cleanliness another clear strength. The Botanical restaurant, bar and coffee counter give it useful places to linger outside your room.

The main compromise is space. Recent Tripadvisor and Booking.com guests describe small bedrooms, limited storage and, in some doubles, a bed against the wall. Expect roughly a 25-minute walk into the tourist centre, though buses stop nearby. Several Tripadvisor guests also report having to request housekeeping, so clarify arrangements at check-in. We'd skip it if you want generous rooms, effortless sightseeing from your doorstep or traditional four-star service.

• Best for: couples on short city breaks; Croke Park eventgoers; travelers comfortable using buses

• Watch out for: compact rooms and limited storage; around 25 minutes' walk to the tourist centre; confirm housekeeping arrangements

• Location: Handy for Croke Park, with nearby buses; not in the main tourist core.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and air-conditioning; smaller doubles can have one side against a wall.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback on Booking.com and Expedia, despite some housekeeping complaints on Tripadvisor.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff are a consistent strength; housekeeping experiences are less uniform.

• Amenities: Botanical restaurant and bar, lobby coffee counter and free Wi-Fi; a streamlined rather than full-service offering.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast costs extra unless included; no hotel parking, and nearby parking is independently charged.
