Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong sightseeing base with welcoming staff, but dated rooms and lively nights. a lively, traditional 3-star on Dublin’s riverfront, scored for what it is.

The Arlington is a traditional 3-star overlooking the Liffey, and we'd pick it for exploring Dublin rather than stylish interiors. Temple Bar, Trinity College and shopping streets are within easy walking reach. Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, clean rooms and breakfast; the Celtic Nights dinner show adds an easy evening's entertainment without leaving the hotel.

The compromise is comfort rather than convenience. Recent guests describe dated furnishings, and noise from streets and nightlife can interrupt sleep. The hotel confirms there is no air-conditioning, with several summer and autumn reviewers reporting stuffy rooms despite fans. Ask for a quieter room, but don't assume silence. It's a strong fit for sightseeing and sociable evenings; we'd skip it if cool bedrooms, contemporary finishes or reliably quiet nights are priorities.

• Best for: first-time Dublin sightseers; travelers who enjoy Irish music; car-free city breaks

• Watch out for: street and nightlife noise; no air-conditioning; rooms can feel hot; dated furnishings and carpets

• Location: Central riverfront setting, walkable to Temple Bar and Trinity College, with buses and trams nearby.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable, with some spacious family rooms; dated decor, heat and noise are recurring drawbacks.

• Cleanliness: Broadly positive across booking sites, including recent praise for clean bedrooms and bathrooms.

• Service: Friendly reception and attentive breakfast staff are consistent strengths.

• Amenities: Restaurant, bar, Celtic Nights show and free Wi-Fi; the official FAQ says no room service.

• Fees and surprises: No on-site parking; nearby parking costs extra. Booking.com lists a refundable damage deposit.
