Axel's take on Brickell: #3 of 7 in Miami, 6.8/10
The best mainland all-rounder if restaurants and transit matter more than sand. Brickell combines the strongest hotel score with excellent access and distinctive city character, but the weakest value score holds it third.
Brickell is polished, vertical Miami: office towers, residential high-rises and restaurant plans rather than pastel beachfront streets. South Miami Avenue and Mary Brickell Village supply much of the evening activity, while Brickell City Centre makes shopping an easy part of the day. Metrorail and Metromover give it unusually useful connections for Miami.
It is our strongest mainland choice for travelers who want to walk to dinner and make selective trips elsewhere. The compromise is urban traffic, construction and no ocean beach; a map can understate the inconvenience of repeatedly crossing to Miami Beach. Skip it if your ideal morning starts barefoot on the sand or you want a low-rise, historic neighborhood.
- Best for: food lovers, business trips and conventions, travelers without a car, shopping
- Skip it if: Daily beach access is the main purpose of your trip; You want quiet, low-rise streets
- Getting around: Walk the dining and shopping streets; Brickell station has Metrorail and Metromover; MIA normally has direct Orange Line service weekdays before 8 p.m., with an Earlington Heights change otherwise—check current airport alerts; FLL requires road travel or shuttle–rail connections.
- After dark: South Miami Avenue and Mary Brickell Village stay restaurant-and-bar focused into the evening; this is not a financial district that simply shuts at five.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $474 a night
