Axel's take on Reforma & Juarez: #2 of 6 in Mexico City, 8.1/10
The practical all-rounder, with strong transport and several distinct evening scenes. The strongest access score, well-rated hotels and distinctive evening options put it second; weaker value keeps it behind Roma Norte & Condesa.
A practical first-visit base that balances transport and evening plans. Reforma supplies broad sidewalks, offices and the Ángel; turn into Juárez for cafés around Plaza Washington, Korean restaurants near Florencia and Zona Rosa's LGBTQ bars around Amberes. The contrast between the boulevard and the smaller streets is part of the appeal.
It is not uniformly calm: sleeping beside Zona Rosa clubs is a different proposition from choosing a quieter Juárez street. Reforma also hosts organized street events, so straightforward vehicle access is not guaranteed every day. Stay here for business appointments, public transport and nights out; skip it if your ideal base is a small neighborhood organized around a park.
- Best for: first-time visitors, nightlife, business trips and conventions, LGBTQ+ travelers
- Skip it if: You are sensitive to traffic or club noise; You want a park-centered residential setting
- Getting around: Metro L1 at Insurgentes or Sevilla, Metrobús L1 on Insurgentes and L7 on Reforma; Juárez and northern Roma are walkable; MEX has the L4 airport bus to Amajac plus an onward connection, NLU trains reach Buenavista, and TLC needs a road transfer.
- After dark: Amberes and Zona Rosa stay lively late; the streets around Plaza Washington offer a noticeably different, more café-and-bar-oriented evening.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $160 a night · usually 7% under the public rate
