The best hotels in Wailea, Maui, ranked

Axel's take on Wailea: #3 of 6 in Maui, 6.2/10

Choose polished seclusion and beachfront walks over town life. Wailea has the strongest hotels and a polished setting, but the weakest value and limited everyday town life keep it third.

Wailea suits travelers who want their surroundings to feel like a vacation before they leave the grounds. Wailea Alanui connects manicured resort landscaping, the Shops at Wailea and beach access, while the shoreline path makes sunset walks part of the routine. This is the strongest choice for a polished couples’ break, especially if dinner within the resort district sounds appealing.

The limitation is separation from ordinary town life: casual evenings often mean a trip into Kihei, and hillside addresses involve more walking than beachfront ones. Beach conditions are not uniform after recent storms; October 2026 visitors still reported rocky sections and altered access. Skip Wailea if spontaneous bar-hopping matters more than calm.

• Best for: couples, luxury travelers, travelers without a car, shopping
• Skip it if: You want everyday town life outside; Spontaneous bar-hopping is important
• Getting around: The beachfront is walkable, but hills lengthen inland trips; 10 stops on Wailea Ike Drive; from OGG drive or take 35/40, then 10 at Kahului Transit Center.
• After dark: Sunset drinks, dinner and shopping fill the early evening, followed by relative quiet rather than a bar scene.
• Rates: Typical Axel rate $1,137 a night · usually 15% under the public rate

Where to look in Wailea

• Wailea Beach coastal path. Start along this shoreline for sunset strolls and resort dining without making every outing a drive. Hotels here: Wailea Beach Villas, Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, Grand Wailea Maui, A Waldorf Astoria Resort.
• Wailea Ike Place. Choose the inland shopping pocket for dining access, accepting an uphill return from the beach. Hotels here: Residence Inn Maui Wailea, AC Hotel by Marriott Maui Wailea.
• Polo Beach park edge. A southern beach pocket for coastal walks and picnics, rather than a town-style evening scene. Hotels here: Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui.

How to choose

• Choose Wailea Maui Hotel if you want adults-only quiet, spacious suites and attentive service, and don’t need a beachfront address.
• Choose Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui if your family needs separate living space, beachfront access and warm service.
• Choose Residence Inn Maui Wailea if you want kitchen-equipped suites and included breakfast much cheaper than most here, accepting hills and a shuttle.

What paying more buys

Compared with cheaper Residence Inn Maui Wailea, Fairmont Kea Lani buys direct Polo Beach access, separate-living-room suites and fuller resort facilities. Pricier Four Seasons Resort Maui adds particularly attentive service, though renovations require care with room assignment. The premium is harder to justify if you’ll spend most days driving around Maui. Typical rates with Axel here run from $483 a night at AC Hotel by Marriott Maui Wailea to $2,505 at Ho‘olei Villas at Grand Wailea (last 30 days).
