Axel's take on Soho: #1 of 9 in Málaga, 8.9/10
The best balance of central convenience and a little breathing room. Soho wins overall with excellent connections, abundant nearby choices and strong hotels, though value is middling and the beach is not immediately outside.
Soho works especially well when you want the old town nearby rather than underneath your window. Around Calle Tomás Heredia and Calle Trinidad Grund, street art, cafés and cultural venues give the neighborhood its own identity. The Alameda, river crossings and port edge make it feel connected rather than tucked away.
It is not uniformly quiet, and the broad roads around its edges feel less intimate than the pedestrian lanes inside. Also, older guides overstate the museum offering: the former CAC remains closed, with reopening postponed to 2027. Stay for the location and neighborhood rhythm, not a promised visit to that building.
- Best for: first-time visitors, nightlife, travelers without a car, LGBTQ+ travelers
- Skip it if: You want immediate beach access; You want to sleep among medieval lanes
- Getting around: Centro-Alameda's C1 airport train and Atarazanas L1 are nearby; walk into the old town or along the port, with Alameda buses for longer trips.
- After dark: A better bet than the busiest old-town bar streets for calmer evenings, but check rooms directly above bars.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $188 a night · usually 5% under the public rate

How to choose
- Choose Mariposa Hotel Malaga if attentive service and comfortable, spacious rooms matter more than having a pool.

- Choose Be Mate Málaga Soho if you need kitchens and separate bedrooms for less than most here; confirm whether ground-floor works have finished.
What paying more buys
