Axel's take: 8.8/10

Spacious Soho apartments that deliver on comfort and location, with limited hotel services. an upscale self-catering aparthotel in central Málaga, scored for what it is.

Tandem Soho Suites is an upscale aparthotel, not a full-service four-star hotel, and it's a strong pick for an independent Málaga break. Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the spacious apartments, comfortable beds and helpful reception staff. Cleanliness earns strong marks overall. Proper kitchens make eating in practical, while the Soho location puts the old town, market and restaurants within easy walking distance.

The compromises are mostly about service: reception has limited hours, and recent guests repeatedly report no luggage storage. Expedia lists housekeeping as available on request for an extra charge. Some Booking.com and Trip.com guests mention street noise, although others find their apartments quiet. We'd skip it if you need round-the-clock reception or guaranteed silence; for couples and families who value space and independence, it delivers well.

• Best for: couples exploring Málaga on foot; families wanting apartment space; travelers who prefer self-catering

• Watch out for: limited reception hours and no luggage storage; street noise in some apartments; housekeeping on request at extra cost

• Location: Walkable Soho base near the old town and airport-train terminus; not beachfront.

• Rooms: Spacious studios and suites with kitchens; comfort is praised, but sound insulation gets mixed feedback.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across sites, with occasional exceptions rather than a consistent problem.

• Service: Reception staff receive repeated praise; arrange arrival instructions ahead if arriving outside staffed hours.

• Amenities: Kitchens, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi are confirmed by Eurostars; Expedia also lists a gym.

• Fees and surprises: Refundable damage deposit required; parking costs extra, and Expedia lists an additional housekeeping fee.
