A strong budget pick for spacious rooms and free parking, not River Walk atmosphere.
Best Western Alamo Suites is a budget all-suite hotel on downtown’s edge, and a strong pick if you’re driving and want room to spread out. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the spacious, generally clean rooms and friendly staff. Free breakfast and parking add real value, while microwaves, refrigerators, an indoor pool and a hot tub make it practical for families.
The compromise is setting and polish. This is an older, modest property near the interstate, not a hotel in the heart of the River Walk action; plan on driving or taking a rideshare for sightseeing. Some recent Expedia guests mention room odors and dated bathrooms, although positive cleanliness reports comfortably outweigh those complaints. We’d skip it for a romantic downtown break, but choose it for a straightforward, good-value base.

A strong budget pick for spacious rooms and free parking, not River Walk atmosphere. a budget all-suite hotel on the edge of downtown, scored for what it is.
We’d skip it for a romantic downtown break, but choose it for a straightforward, good-value base.
Best for: families wanting extra room; budget-conscious drivers; short sightseeing stays
Watch out for: outside the main River Walk action; older interiors and occasional room odors; parking can be tight
Location: Easy interstate access; downtown sights are better reached by car or rideshare.
Rooms: Spacious suites with microwaves and refrigerators; furnishings and bathrooms show some age.
Cleanliness: Generally praised across sites, with occasional recent complaints about odors.
Service: Friendly, helpful front-desk and breakfast staff are consistent strengths.
Amenities: Free breakfast and Wi-Fi, indoor pool, hot tub, basic gym and guest laundry.
Fees and surprises: Parking is free; Expedia lists a damage deposit and a late-checkout charge.
