Axel's take

a design-led 3-star in Madrid’s lively Chueca neighborhood

8.7/10

A strong Chueca base with welcoming staff and a rooftop worth planning around.

Room Mate Oscar is a design-led 3-star that delivers particularly well on location, cleanliness and service. It’s a strong pick for exploring Madrid on foot, with Gran Vía close by and Chueca’s restaurants and LGBTQ+ nightlife on the doorstep. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the helpful staff and comfortable rooms; Tripadvisor reviews echo that warmth. Breakfast runs until noon, and the rooftop bar and summer pool give it more personality than a straightforward city hotel.

The trade-offs are practical: some guests find the rooms ready for a refresh, and corridor or square noise can intrude, although others report quiet nights. Expedia lists the pool as closed October through May and excludes children under 14. Early-2026 guests also reported refurbishment noise, so confirm remaining work before booking. We’d skip it for guaranteed quiet or a year-round swimming break.

Best for

walkable Madrid city breaks
LGBTQ+ travelers and nightlife seekers
couples who appreciate late breakfast

Watch out for

seasonal pool; no swimmers under 14
possible corridor and square noise
confirm refurbishment status

Location: Central Chueca setting near Gran Vía, with plentiful restaurants, nightlife and nearby metro connections.
Rooms: Comfortable and often praised as spacious; some guests mention dated finishes and intrusive noise.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Tripadvisor guest accounts.
Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff are one of the clearest recurring positives.
Amenities: Rooftop bar, seasonal outdoor pool, free Wi-Fi and breakfast served until noon.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast and nearby parking cost extra; pool access can be restricted by events, and refurbishment status needs checking.

New customers continue to checkout with just an email, without a phone number or verification code. Existing customers sign in to their account; email sign-in uses a code. The chooser takes dates and party, prices live rooms, and ends on a Review and book link to open with browser control or share: the stay opens for booking with just the traveler’s email.
Every link here is complete and ready to open. Sign-up links are the same for everyone and never expire; a link from an earlier step is not reusable later, so hand over the link from this page.

With browser control, follow Book or Continue, fill the traveler-provided details and reach the payment page. Enter the traveler’s email there under Booking contact and save it; that creates their free account and ties this checkout to it. Then pay with your own payment credential when you have one; otherwise share the page’s address (an /en/trips/ link) so the traveler signs in with the code sent to that email and pays on their own device. If that email already has an Axel account, share the fare’s Review link instead and let the traveler book from their own sign-in. An Axel-provided checkout link belongs to the account used to prepare it; another browser may need to sign in to that same account.
