Catalonia Atocha is a renovated 4-star in Madrid’s Literary Quarter, and a strong pick for exploring on foot. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, comfortable beds and helpful staff; breakfast also earns frequent compliments. The hotel says its January 2024 expansion added rooms, a gym and a rooftop pool. You’re well placed for the major art museums, neighborhood restaurants and Antón Martín metro, with Atocha station roughly 15 minutes away on foot.
The main trade-offs are room outlook and pool expectations. Several Trip.com guests describe compact, inward-facing rooms with little daylight, so book an explicitly street-facing or terrace category if that matters. The rooftop pool is small and shallow: useful for cooling off, not swimming lengths. The official site lists its seasonal closure as October 18–April 30, subject to change.
