Hotel Emperador is a classic 4-star on Gran Vía, and we'd pick it for sightseeing convenience and its rooftop pool rather than contemporary design. With theaters, restaurants and several Metro stations nearby, it makes a practical Madrid base; the rooftop adds a genuine reason to spend time at the hotel.
