Motel 6's FAQ says room rates are subject to applicable taxes and local fees, without itemizing those fees.[3] US rules require mandatory property charges in the advertised total, but we could not confirm uniform first-screen inclusion on Motel 6's website or app.[4][5] We could not confirm a Motel 6-specific fee-disclosure enforcement outcome; the documented 2019 Washington settlement concerned guest information, not prices.[6]

Across 1,141 rates Axel's suppliers quoted at 33 US hotels from September 26 through October 25, 2026, 5% carried a mandatory property fee, and 6% of hotels had one on most rates.[Axel data] Those shares are a floor, not a ceiling, because suppliers sometimes omit hotel fees from quotes.

Two examples show why the hotel still matters: Motel 6 Austin North lists a mandatory $2 nightly service fee and advertises free parking.[7][5] Motel 6 San Diego Downtown lists a mandatory $7 nightly utility fee, plus optional parking at $20 per night per car.[8][9]

Late cancellation is the strongest feature

Motel 6 and Studio 6 publish a general free-cancellation deadline of 6 p.m. hotel time on arrival day, or 4 p.m. at some locations.[1][10] Deadlines can vary by hotel, event, holiday and weekend, so the booked rate's deadline governs.[3] Under the general guaranteed-reservation policy, missing that deadline costs the first night plus applicable taxes and fees, and remaining nights are cancelled.[3]

Use My6 for cash savings

My6's central terms offer a discount from each hotel's Best Available Rate, without a fixed chainwide percentage.[13] Its listed conveniences include recent-stay information, exclusive offers and saved profile and payment details for faster booking.[13] We would join for an actual quoted saving, not for an assumed long-term rewards balance.[13]

Some official destination marketing claims points earning and free-night redemption, but we could not confirm operative earning, redemption, expiry or elite-tier rules.[16][13] The documented free-night offers are promotional prizes, not recurring stay-earned rewards.[17][18] For example, the October 2026 6th Drop prizes allowed availability restrictions and blackout periods, with a 15-day claim deadline.[18]

Check holds, pets and early arrival

Motel 6 and Studio 6 warn that debit or bank cards may be authorized for the stay plus incidentals, leaving funds unavailable for up to two weeks depending on the bank.[2] As property examples, Motel 6 San Antonio Fort Sam Houston lists a $50 deposit, while Motel 6 Saint George University/Historic Downtown lists $100 at check-in.[19][20]

Motel 6 advertises free basic Wi-Fi and free stays for up to two well-behaved pets per room, subject to restrictions.[2][3] Studio 6's own policy lists a $10 daily pet fee capped at $100 per stay, exempting service animals and listed Studio 6 Suites locations, while Motel6.com directs Studio 6 guests to property-specific policies.[2][21] Confirm the Studio 6 pet total rather than assume Motel 6's free-pet policy transfers.[2][21]

G6 launched bookable early check-in in April 2026 at participating hotels, with fees starting at $15 and advertising guaranteed arrival as early as 11 a.m. or the property's standard checkout time.[22] Its current reservation policy says payment does not guarantee early room availability, and does not promise an automatic refund.[2] Before paying, ask the property to confirm the arrival time and refund terms in writing.[22][2]

The room is the main risk

Across 100 hotels Axel has reviewed in October 2026, scored against expectations for their class and price, the average was 6.14 out of 10.[Axel data] Only 2% reached 8 or above, while 76% fell below 7.

Motel 6's 86 reviewed hotels averaged 6.19, with 73% below 7.[Axel data] That makes checking the individual hotel more important than choosing by the brand name alone.

J.D.
