Book Accor selectively: stronger hotels, uneven fees and flexibility
Our take: We'd book Accor selectively, favoring Sofitel and MGallery over ibis budget.[Axel data] It suits travelers who value fixed-euro rewards, but property fees and restrictive prepaid rates can weaken the deal.[1][2][Axel data]
Best for
- Selective Sofitel and MGallery bookings
- Travelers using fixed-euro rewards
- Flexible-rate planners
Watch out for
- US resort and urban fees
- Hotel-specific cancellation deadlines
- ibis budget loyalty exclusions

Mandatory fees appeared on 21% of quoted rates and on most rates at 10% of sampled hotels, with a typical charge of $37 a night; these shares are lower bounds, while Accor's confirmation-price terms do not promise first-screen inclusion.
Only 54% of quoted rates were refundable, and flexible deadlines vary by hotel, although many allow cancellation close to arrival.
Flexible bookings permit cancel-and-rebook before their deadline, but prepaid rates lock guests in and the guarantee offers only a short claim window.
Free membership provides discounts of 2% to 10%, but ordinary third-party OTA bookings lose points, qualifying nights and contractual status benefits.
Fixed euro discounts make points predictable, but 12-month expiry, reduced earning at several brands and availability-dependent perks limit the value.
Hotel-set holds can tie up substantial credit, while Adagio housekeeping exclusions and Mantra early-departure penalties require close reading.
Reviewed hotels rarely fall below expectations, with stronger MGallery and Sofitel results, weaker ibis budget rooms and mixed independent brand-level findings.
Check fees before comparing room rates
Accor's sales terms promise a tax-inclusive total at confirmation, while tourist tax may still be payable at the hotel.[3] We could not confirm whether every mandatory property fee appears in the first search price on its website and app.[3]
US rules have required mandatory lodging charges in advertised totals since May 12, 2025; they require disclosure, not the removal of resort fees.[4] Travelers United sued Accor over advertised fee disclosure in December 2023 and still describes the litigation as current, but we could not confirm a final court outcome.[5][6]
Rates Axel's suppliers quoted from September 26 to October 25, 2026 covered 62,028 rates at 220 Accor hotels, excluding the Philippines and Indonesia.[Axel data] Mandatory property fees appeared on 21% of those rates; 10% of the hotels had one on most rates, rising to 47% among the 30 US hotels. Where charged, the typical fee was $37 a night. Supplier quotes can omit fees, so these shares are a floor for the quoted selection, not a worldwide prevalence estimate.
Two examples show why the charging basis matters: Sofitel New York adds US$45 plus tax nightly per room, while Fairmont Mayakoba charges US$38 per adult nightly.[7][8] Parking changes the comparison again: Sofitel New York charges US$85 daily for sedan valet without in-and-out privileges, while Mayakoba includes valet in its fee.[7][8]
Flexible means checking the exact deadline
Accor has no chain-wide flexible cancellation deadline: the selected hotel's rate conditions control.[3] Its general Flexible Rate advertises payment at the hotel without prepayment, subject to stated exceptions.[9] Advance Saver instead requires full payment and prohibits cancellation or modification, advertising maximum savings of 15% globally or 10% in North America, not typical discounts.[2][10]
Of the same rates, 54% were refundable.[Axel data] Among refundable rates, 39% allowed free cancellation less than 24 hours before check-in, 44% required 24 to 72 hours, and 17% required at least 72 hours. Hotel examples span a much wider range: Mercure Melbourne Doncaster allows flexible cancellation until 18:00 on arrival day, while Fairmont Tremblant's published terms impose full forfeiture within 30 days for arrivals from December 18, 2026 through January 1, 2027.[11][12]
If a lower price appears, a refundable booking offers a cancel-and-rebook route before its deadline, provided the cheaper room remains available.[3][9] Do not assume an automatic adjustment: Accor's legal terms direct modifications to the hotel, and prepaid reservations ordinarily cannot be changed or refunded.[3]
The Best Price Guarantee offers a competing-rate match plus another 25% reduction at eligible brands, reduced to 10% at Fairmont and Raffles.[13] The lower competing rate must be found within 24 hours of booking and at least 48 hours before arrival, with matching rooms and conditions; competing login-only prices and packages are excluded.[3][14] Treat it as short-window protection, not continuing insurance against later price drops.[3]
Free membership, real third-party penalties
ALL membership is free, and eligible member rates discount public room prices by 2% to 10%, excluding taxes and additional costs.[15][16] Sign in on the website or app to access them.[15] We'd treat membership as a small gate, not proof that direct booking is always cheapest: the guarantee excludes competing OTA member and login-protected rates.[15][14]
Ordinary bookings through a third-party OTA, reseller or tour operator earn neither ALL points nor elite-qualifying nights and do not qualify for contractual status benefits.[16] Eligible traditional travel agencies connected to Accor's reservation system are different: they can book qualifying stays and member rates.[16] Direct booking also cannot restore benefits at nonparticipating hotels, with SLS Beverly Hills and Mondrian South Beach two named examples.[17]
Predictable points, conditional elite perks
ALL Accor, the current name of the loyalty program, values 2,000 Reward points at a €40 booking discount.[16] This is a fixed-euro discount rather than a room-category award chart, so the points needed follow the eligible cash price.[1] Accor advertises no blackout dates for eligible point redemptions at participating hotels, not unrestricted free-room awards.[18]
Reward points normally expire after 12 months; qualifying Reward-point earning, even one point, renews the balance for another 12 months.[19] Earning Status points alone does not extend them.[19] Base earning is 25 Reward points per €10 at most participating brands, but 12.5 at ibis and ibis Styles and 5 at participating ibis budget hotels.[16]
Do not build a trip around an unconfirmed upgrade or late checkout: both standard elite benefits depend on availability, and complimentary upgrades exclude ibis, ibis Styles and Adagio.[20][21] Platinum daily breakfast is restricted to participating Asia-Pacific hotels with seven country exclusions, while Diamond adds weekend breakfast at participating hotels worldwide.[16] Suite Night Upgrades can guarantee a suite when booked at participating hotels, but voucher availability and blackout dates still apply.[22][16]
Ask about holds and housekeeping
Accor leaves check-in, checkout, pet and Wi-Fi conditions to individual hotels and permits card preauthorizations for unpaid accommodation plus estimated extras.[3] It says release usually takes 24 to 48 hours, but the bank can take seven business days or longer.[3] On the positive side, ALL lists premium Wi-Fi as a benefit available from free enrollment at participating properties, while ibis advertises free Wi-Fi as a brand feature.[21][23]
For eligible modifiable Adagio bookings, early departure can be penalty-free with the required notice, but the deadline varies by stay length.[24] Adagio excludes housekeeping from stays shorter than eight nights unless purchased separately; longer stays include weekly housekeeping.[24] By contrast, Mantra Group's posted direct-booking terms retain the full booking amount when a guest leaves after check-in.[25]
Two examples show how holds can accumulate: ibis Cannes Mouans Sartoux requires €50 per person per night plus unpaid accommodation, while Mondrian South Beach requires US$200 per night in addition to room and tax.[26][27] These are temporary card authorizations rather than automatic final charges, but we'd confirm the amount and available credit before arrival.[3][26][27]
Choose the brand, then the hotel
Across 568 Accor hotels Axel has reviewed in October 2026, the average was 8.23, 73% scored at least 8 and 1% fell below 7.[Axel data] Each hotel is rated against its own class and price, so economy hotels are not penalized simply for being basic. We'd read that as a reason to consider Accor, not to treat its brands as interchangeable.
In those reviews, MGallery averaged 8.61 across 12 hotels, Sofitel 8.43 across 26 and Pullman 8.30 across 28.[Axel data] Novotel averaged 8.16, Mercure 8.04 and ibis 8.01, while ibis budget was weaker at 7.41 across 15 hotels. Which?'s UK table also favored Novotel over ibis budget, 72% against 57%, using June and July 2025 fieldwork.[28]
Fairmont looks strong among the reviewed hotels, averaging 8.58 across 31, but Forbes reports it tied last among 12 luxury brands in the 2026 J.D. Power North American results.[29][Axel data] Which?'s international table put Sofitel at 78%, highest among the named Accor brands tested, although that survey used 2024 fieldwork.[30] We'd favor Sofitel or MGallery, inspect ibis budget room reviews closely, and treat Fairmont as a hotel-by-hotel decision.[29][28][30]
- Axel's take, 568 Accor hotels reviewed: average 8.2/10; 73% score 8 or higher, 1% score below 7. Each hotel is scored for what it is, against its class and price. Across all hotels Axel has reviewed, the average is 8.1 and 8% score below 7.
- Rates Axel's suppliers quoted, September 26 to October 25, 2026: 62,028 rates at 220 hotels. 54% were refundable, and 39% of those could be cancelled free until less than 24 hours before check-in. 10% of hotels added a mandatory resort, destination or similar fee to most rates (typically $37 a night where charged).
| Brand | Hotels reviewed | Average Axel's take | Below 7 |

| Ibis | 70 | 8.0 | 1% |
| Mercure | 52 | 8.0 | 0% |
| Fairmont Hotels & Resorts | 31 | 8.6 | 0% |

How these figures are made: How Axel rates hotel chains.
Which Accor brands to book
- Sofitel (Our pick): A stronger Accor choice: reviewed hotels average 8.43, and Which?'s international table scores Sofitel 78%.[30][Axel data] Check urban fees separately, including the US$45 plus tax nightly charge at Sofitel New York.[7]
- MGallery (Our pick): The 12 reviewed MGallery hotels average 8.61, with none below 7.[Axel data] We'd shortlist it, while recognizing that this is a small brand sample.[Axel data]
- Fairmont (Mixed): Reviewed hotels average 8.58, but Fairmont tied last in the 2026 North American luxury satisfaction ranking reported by Forbes.[29][Axel data] Property fees can be substantial, including US$59 plus tax daily at Kea Lani.[31]
- Novotel (Solid): A sensible midscale shortlist: reviewed hotels average 8.16, and Which?'s UK table scores Novotel 72%.[32][28][Axel data]
- Mercure (Mixed): Reviewed hotels average 8.04 with none below 7, while Which?'s UK table gives bedrooms and cleanliness three stars.[28][Axel data] We'd check recent room-condition comments before choosing.[33]
- ibis (Mixed): Reviewed hotels average 8.01, but Which?'s UK table gives bedrooms and bathrooms two stars.[28][Axel data] Free Wi-Fi is an advertised brand feature.[23]
- ibis Styles (Mixed): Reviewed hotels average 8.12, with 4% below 7.[Axel data] Which?'s UK table gives bedrooms two stars, so we'd inspect the specific room rather than rely on the brand name.[28]
- ibis budget (Skip if you can): We'd skip it when room comfort matters: reviewed hotels average 7.41, and Which?'s UK table gives bedrooms and bed comfort two stars.[28][Axel data] ALL participation is generally excluded, with country-specific exceptions.[17]
How to book Accor well
- Choose Flexible Rate if your plans may change, but record the hotel's exact local-time cancellation cutoff before paying.[3][9]
- Before you book, compare the room, mandatory property fees and parking as one total rather than treating parking as an afterthought.[7][8]
- Before booking through a third-party OTA, compare its saving with the ALL points, qualifying nights and contractual benefits you will lose.[16]
- Before claiming the Best Price Guarantee, save dated screenshots of matching rates and conditions, and make sure the lower rate was found within 24 hours of booking and at least 48 hours before arrival.[3][14]
- Skip ibis budget if you need ALL benefits unless the exact hotel confirms participation.[17]
- Before arrival, ask for the full card-hold amount and leave enough available credit for a release that can take seven business days or longer.[3]

What would raise the score
- Show every mandatory property charge in the first search price across all regional websites and apps.
- Set a chain-wide minimum cancellation window for flexible rates and display the exact local-time cutoff prominently.
- Offer a one-step lower-price adjustment for refundable bookings and simplify the best-price guarantee's exclusions.
- Publish one consistent loyalty participation list and guarantee a defined late-checkout time for qualifying elites.
Questions about Accor
Will using ALL points waive resort fees?
Do not assume so: ALL points generally do not waive resort fees, although points may offset charges included in the prepaid price.[34][16] Paying a fee with points is different from having it removed.[16]
Can I cancel or get a lower price after booking Accor?
Your hotel and selected rate set the cancellation rules, with no universal flexible-rate deadline.[3] A refundable booking can be cancelled and rebooked before its cutoff if a cheaper rate remains available, but ordinary prepaid bookings cannot be changed or refunded.[3][9] The Best Price Guarantee is separate and requires finding the lower competing rate within 24 hours of booking and at least 48 hours before arrival.[3]
Do I earn ALL benefits on Booking.com or Expedia?
Those bookings earn neither ALL points nor elite-qualifying nights and do not qualify for contractual status benefits.[16] This applies to every ordinary third-party OTA booking, not just discounted rates.[16]
What are ALL points worth, and do they expire?
For eligible hotel bookings, 2,000 Reward points provide a €40 discount.[16] Reward points normally expire after 12 months, but qualifying Reward-point earning renews the balance for another 12 months.[19]
Does ibis budget participate in ALL?
ibis budget is generally excluded, with country-specific exceptions.[17] Published pages disagree about the country coverage, so confirm the exact hotel's participation before booking for points or status benefits.[17]
Is ALL membership free, or do I need Accor+?
Standard ALL membership is free; ALL Accor+ Explorer is a separate paid subscription.[15][35] Explorer's two annual Stay Plus nights each require an accompanying paid night and apply at participating Asia-Pacific hotels.[36]
