#4 of 7 hotels in Gardens & Tamboerskloof by Axel's take. Gardens & Tamboerskloof is #1 of 8 places to stay in Cape Town. The best hotels in Gardens & Tamboerskloof, ranked · Where to stay in Cape Town

Axel's take: 8.9/10

A strong city base with genuinely warm service and standout rooftop views. a heritage 4-star boutique hotel near Kloof Street, scored for what it is.

Cloud 9 is a heritage 4-star boutique hotel spread across five connected period properties near Kloof Street. It's a strong pick for travelers who want restaurants on the doorstep rather than a waterfront setting. Recent Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the helpful staff, cleanliness, comfortable beds and breakfast. The rooftop bar's Table Mountain views give it an extra reason to choose it over a more anonymous city hotel.

The main trade-off is room choice: some guests find their rooms compact, and balconies or mountain views aren't universal. Some rooms require stairs, so confirm the access route before booking if mobility matters. Private parking costs extra. We'd choose it for a characterful Cape Town sightseeing base, but skip it if step-free access throughout or a beachfront setting is essential.

Best for: couples exploring Cape Town; restaurant and café lovers; travelers who prefer smaller hotels
Watch out for: some rooms are compact; stairs to some rooms; paid private parking
Location: Near Kloof Street's restaurants and cafés; beaches and the Waterfront require a separate trip.
Rooms: Comfortable and individually styled; size, outlook and balcony provision vary by category.
Cleanliness: Strong cleanliness ratings across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor.
Service: Friendly, attentive staff are the most consistent theme in recent reviews.
Amenities: Rooftop restaurant and bar, two outdoor pools, spa, hot tub and sauna.
Fees and surprises: Private parking is charged separately; confirm room access and the booked view.
