#3 of 9 hotels in Green Point & De Waterkant by Axel's take. Green Point & De Waterkant is #2 of 8 places to stay in Cape Town. The best hotels in Green Point & De Waterkant, ranked · Where to stay in Cape Town

Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong pick for sociable backpackers, less convincing for light sleepers. A sociable budget backpackers hostel in Green Point, not a conventional 4-star hotel, scored for what it is.

A Sunflower Stop is a budget backpackers hostel, not the conventional 4-star hotel its listing might suggest. We'd pick it for its welcoming atmosphere and Green Point location near the park, stadium and promenade. Tripadvisor and Hostelworld guests repeatedly praise the helpful team, while cleanliness earns strong marks on Booking.com. The outdoor pool, communal kitchen and poolside bar give travelers natural places to meet, and recent guests particularly enjoy the Saturday braais.

The trade-off is privacy and quiet. Dorms and private rooms with either shared or en-suite bathrooms offer different levels of comfort; check exactly what you're booking. Main Road traffic can disturb road-facing rooms, and bar chatter adds another potential interruption. One recent dorm guest also noted the lack of bed curtains. It's good value for travelers seeking company; we'd skip it for a reliably silent retreat or hotel-style service.

Best for: Solo backpackers looking to meet people; Budget-minded couples comfortable with hostel life; Self-catering travelers
Watch out for: Traffic noise in Main Road-facing rooms; Evening bar chatter; Some private rooms have shared bathrooms
Location: Green Point base within walking distance of the park, stadium, promenade and local shops.
Rooms: Mixed dorms and simple private rooms; choose shared bathrooms or en-suite carefully.
Cleanliness: Broadly positive across sources, including recent praise for daily bathroom cleaning.
Service: Warm, helpful staff are a consistent strength, despite occasional complaints about individual interactions.
Amenities: Outdoor pool, poolside bar, communal kitchen, free Wi-Fi and Saturday braais—not a full-service resort.
Fees and surprises: Airport transfers cost extra; arrange late arrival ahead because reception hours are limited.
