Axel's take: 8.7/10
A strong downtown pick with friendly service and Congress Hall perks. A small mid-range beach inn with motel-style suites in downtown Cape May, scored for what it is.
The Star is a small mid-range beach inn with motel-style suites, and we'd pick it for a walk-everywhere Cape May stay. The beach, Washington Street Mall and restaurants are close, while access to Congress Hall's pools and seasonal beach service adds substance beyond the pretty Victorian exterior. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, comfortable beds and welcoming staff. Suites with kitchenettes make more sense for families than the main inn's adults-only rooms.
Choose your room carefully: several recent Expedia guests found inn rooms cramped, and the hotel confirms they're reached only by stairs. This is intimate accommodation, not a full resort under one roof; pools and the gym are at sister properties. Expedia lists a mandatory resort fee. We'd skip the inn rooms if you need generous space or step-free access.
