Axel's take: 7.7/10

Strong family entertainment and a lovely beach, but dining logistics and maintenance need patience. a large, upscale family all-inclusive on Costa Mujeres beach, scored for what it is.

Planet Hollywood Cancun is a large, upscale family all-inclusive that works best when keeping everyone entertained matters more than polished luxury. The beach, pools, lazy river and children's activities are its strongest draws. Recent Expedia and Booking.com guests praise helpful staff and spacious accommodation, with cleanliness generally scoring well. We'd consider it a good family option, rather than a standout among Costa Mujeres resorts. Adult Scene is a separately booked adults-only section.

The trade-offs are recurring restaurant-reservation frustrations, uneven food and signs of wear in some rooms. Recent guests also report neighboring hotel construction, including disruptive noise in affected accommodation; ask about current work and room placement before committing. Star Class adds priority dining and butler service, but costs extra. We'd skip it for a quiet couples' escape or consistently high-end dining.

• Best for: families with children and teens; activity-focused resort vacations; beach and pool days

• Watch out for: neighboring construction reported by recent guests; restaurant reservations can be frustrating; uneven food and room maintenance

• Location: Beachfront in Costa Mujeres, roughly 45 minutes from the airport and away from central Cancun.

• Rooms: Spacious suites with balconies or terraces; recurring reports of wear and occasional damp smells temper the appeal.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength in aggregate ratings and recent feedback, despite some room-specific complaints.

• Service: Friendly staff earn substantial praise; dining access and problem handling are less consistent.

• Amenities: Pools, lazy river, children's activities, gym and entertainment; confirm water-park availability after a reported summer closure.

• Fees and surprises: Star Class and spa treatments cost extra; Expedia lists a local tax. Confirm whether your booking is in the family resort or Adult Scene section.
