Axel's take: 7.8/10

Warm service and a handy southern location outweigh rooms that need refreshing. an older 4-star business hotel in southern Cali, scored for what it is.

NH Cali Royal is an older 4-star business hotel that makes most sense for plans in southern Cali. We'd pick it for the spacious rooms, shopping convenience near Unicentro and leafy outdoor pool area, rather than polished interiors. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, thorough cleaning and generous breakfast buffet. For business trips or family visits nearby, those strengths make it a good, practical choice.

The compromise is room condition: guests across both sites describe dated furnishings and uneven maintenance, even when they otherwise enjoyed their stay. Reception also draws occasional complaints about slow or inflexible handling. Central Cali requires a drive, so we'd skip it for a sightseeing trip built around walking downtown—or if you expect a consistently fresh, contemporary four-star room.

• Best for: business travelers with southern Cali appointments; families visiting nearby; travelers prioritizing shopping and pool time

• Watch out for: dated rooms and uneven maintenance; occasional reception frustrations; a drive from central Cali

• Location: Near Unicentro and Holguines Trade Center; convenient for southern Cali rather than downtown sightseeing.

• Rooms: Spacious, but recurring guest reports describe tired furnishings and maintenance shortcomings.

• Cleanliness: Generally praised across recent reviews, despite occasional lapses.

• Service: Warm restaurant and bell staff stand out; reception feedback is less consistent.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, hot tub, compact gym, steam bath, restaurant and breakfast buffet; no confirmed indoor pool.

• Fees and surprises: On-site parking is free; airport transfers and pets cost extra; check whether breakfast is included.
