Axel's take: 9.0/10

Personal service and old-house character make this a standout simple stay. a characterful, independent 3-star in central Cali, scored for what it is.

Hotel Stein Colonial is a characterful 3-star, and a strong pick if you prefer personal attention to chain-hotel polish. Recent Booking.com, Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, comfortable rooms and historic building. Cleanliness scores are consistently strong, while the gardens, outdoor pool and included breakfast give it more appeal than a basic city base. Its location puts the riverfront and several central sights within walking distance.

The main compromises are practical: there are plenty of stairs and no elevator, and air-conditioning should not be assumed—the hotel's economy-room page lists a ceiling fan. Confirm your exact room before booking, and arrange late arrivals directly because reception hours differ across listings. We'd choose it for couples and families who appreciate traditional surroundings; skip it if step-free access or standardized modern rooms are essential.

• Best for: couples who like historic hotels; families wanting a pool; travelers who value personal service

• Watch out for: many stairs and no elevator; confirm air-conditioning for your room; coordinate late arrivals in advance

• Location: Central base within walking distance of the riverfront, Gato del Río and Centenario shopping.

• Rooms: Traditional furnishings and well-reviewed comfort; economy rooms list a ceiling fan rather than air-conditioning.

• Cleanliness: Strong cleanliness ratings across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor.

• Service: Warm, attentive staff and hands-on ownership are the most consistent guest praise.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, gardens, playground, basic gym and included breakfast; reserve restaurant meals ahead.

• Fees and surprises: Transfers cost extra; the hotel advertises included private parking, but Expedia contradicts this—confirm directly.
