Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong riverside base for friendly service and comfort, with some traffic noise. a traditional 4-star city hotel beside Cali’s river, scored for what it is.

Hotel Obelisco is a traditional 4-star in El Peñón, and a strong pick for exploring Cali rather than retreating from it. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, clean, spacious rooms and Colombian breakfast. The location puts La Tertulia, the river and neighborhood restaurants within easy walking distance. It delivers comfortable city-hotel basics without needing to feel luxurious.

The main compromise is noise: river-facing views come with a busy avenue, and guests on Booking.com and Tripadvisor flag limited sound insulation. Room categories also matter—the hotel lists interior-facing Standards, river-view Superiors and Masters with balconies. Some areas retain an older feel, so request a renovated room. We'd skip it if silence or uniformly modern interiors are priorities; otherwise, it’s a well-rounded sightseeing base.

• Best for: first-time Cali visitors; couples exploring restaurants and museums; travelers who value attentive service

• Watch out for: traffic noise in river-facing rooms; unevenly updated interiors; balconies depend on room category

• Location: Walkable El Peñón setting near La Tertulia, the Cali River and restaurants.

• Rooms: Spacious and comfortable by guest accounts; Standards face inward, while Masters have balconies.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong feedback across recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Booking.com reviews.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are one of the most consistent strengths across sites.

• Amenities: Rooftop pool, sauna, restaurant and Wi-Fi; a May 2026 pool-renovation complaint predates later pool-area reports.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion and applicable taxes; Expedia lists free parking, but reserve availability ahead.
