Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong downtown pick for comfortable rooms and poolside atmosphere, with some practical caveats. an independent, art-focused 4-star in Calgary’s Beltline, scored for what it is.

Hotel Arts is an independent, art-focused 4-star in Calgary’s Beltline, and a strong pick for a city break with restaurants close by. Recent Expedia, Booking.com and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious rooms, comfortable beds and friendly staff. The artwork and year-round poolside patio give it more personality than a standard business hotel, while the location works well for downtown sightseeing and convention trips.

The main catches are nearby construction and pool logistics. Guests have reported early-morning building noise, which management acknowledges; ask about current work and room placement before booking. Pool access is complimentary for registered guests, but capacity is limited and reservations are strongly encouraged. Some rooms also attract comments about tired finishes. Check parking inclusions carefully: the hotel advertises free self-parking for direct bookings. We'd skip it if guaranteed quiet or unrestricted pool time is essential.

• Best for: couples on a Calgary city break; convention travelers; friends planning a poolside weekend

• Watch out for: nearby construction noise; limited poolside capacity; parking inclusions vary by booking

• Location: Walkable Beltline base for restaurants, downtown attractions and the BMO Centre.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable, though some guests find finishes and bathrooms dated.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong feedback across recent guest reviews.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength; occasional dining-service complaints remain.

• Amenities: Year-round covered/uncovered poolside patio, dining and fitness facilities; reserve poolside ahead.

• Fees and surprises: Direct bookings include self-parking; poolside reservation no-shows incur a fee, and nearby construction can disturb sleep.
