Axel's take: 7.9/10
A strong central base, provided you book a refurbished room. A grand, older 5-star city hotel with partially refurbished rooms, scored for what it is.
Pullman Cairns International is a grand, older five-star city hotel whose appeal rests on space, location and welcoming staff. It's a strong pick for exploring Cairns without a car: the reef terminal, waterfront restaurants and city attractions are within easy walking distance. Rooms start at a generous 40 square metres and have private balconies. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds and helpful service; the refurbished pool deck adds genuine holiday appeal.
The catch is that room categories deliver noticeably different standards. Refurbished Superior and Deluxe rooms are the safer choice; recurring reports of tired furniture and worn finishes in Classic rooms fall short of five-star expectations. Cleanliness is generally praised, with occasional housekeeping lapses. Parking costs extra, and breakfast isn't included in every booking. We'd skip it if you expect uniformly polished luxury throughout.
