Axel's take: 7.7/10

Strong on location and facilities, but book a renovated room. a large, older five-star convention hotel in Retiro, scored for what it is.

This large, older five-star convention hotel in Retiro is a practical choice rather than a polished luxury stay. We'd pick it for business trips or sightseeing with substantial facilities on hand. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, comfortable beds and breakfast; the gym and indoor pool add appeal. Its position near Plaza San Martín and Retiro transport is another strength.

The catch is room consistency: older rooms still attract complaints about worn furnishings, dated bathrooms and unreliable air-conditioning. Ask specifically for a renovated Superior or Executive room. A phased whole-hotel renovation remains underway as of October 2026, so confirm work near your room. Booking.com also lists the seasonal outdoor pool unavailable until December 1, 2026. We'd skip it for a quiet boutique atmosphere or consistently luxurious interiors.

• Best for: conference and business travelers; sightseers wanting central transport; travelers who use a gym and indoor pool

• Watch out for: uneven condition between older and renovated rooms; ongoing phased renovation; outdoor pool listed unavailable until December 1, 2026

• Location: Convenient Retiro base near Plaza San Martín, trains and metro connections.

• Rooms: Request renovated Superior or Executive accommodation; older rooms draw recurring maintenance complaints.

• Cleanliness: Generally praised in recent Expedia reviews, though some guests report mustiness and neglected older rooms.

• Service: Helpful staff earn repeated praise, with some reports of queues and uneven attention.

• Amenities: Gym, indoor pool, seasonal outdoor pool, restaurants and a Club Lounge for eligible bookings.

• Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra; check breakfast inclusion, pool availability and renovation proximity before booking. No hotel airport shuttle.
