Axel's take: 4.7/10

A handy Palermo address cannot outweigh repeated cleanliness and maintenance problems. a basic budget hostel in central Palermo Soho, scored for what it is.

Palermo Soho Hostel is a basic budget hostel with shared and private-room options, rather than a conventional hotel. Its strongest asset is the address: cafés, shops and nightlife are close, and Plaza Serrano is a short walk away. Some guests appreciate the staff, but Booking.com and Expedia’s overall ratings are weak even for simple accommodation. We’d look elsewhere unless location outweighs almost everything else.

The concern is not a lack of luxury. Reviews across several sites repeatedly describe dirty bathrooms, stained bedding, damp and worn-out fittings; some also report biting insects or bedbugs. Expedia guests in late 2025 and early 2026 describe poor bathroom conditions, while a May 2026 Amimir guest reports stained bedding and a room unlike the photos. Breakfast is basic, and room configurations need checking. Skip it if dependable hygiene and comfort matter.

• Best for: travelers prioritizing Palermo Soho above comfort; budget groups willing to accept substantial compromises

• Watch out for: recurring hygiene and damp complaints; guest reports of biting insects or bedbugs; room condition may disappoint compared with photos

• Location: The clear strength: walkable Palermo Soho, close to cafés, nightlife and Plaza Serrano.

• Rooms: Private and shared options; repeated complaints about worn fittings, cramped bathrooms and inconsistent condition.

• Cleanliness: Recurring reports of dirty bathrooms, stained bedding and damp; some guests report bedbugs.

• Service: Some guests praise the staff, but others describe room-allocation problems and unhelpful complaint handling.

• Amenities: Wi-Fi, shared kitchen, patio and breakfast are listed; recent feedback describes a very basic breakfast.

• Fees and surprises: Confirm bathroom type, bed setup and any linen charges; booking sites disagree about pet policies.
