#2 of 9 hotels in Retiro & Plaza San Martín by Axel's take. Retiro & Plaza San Martín is #1 of 9 places to stay in Buenos Aires. The best hotels in Retiro & Plaza San Martín, ranked · Where to stay in Buenos Aires

Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong downtown budget base, with helpful staff and a few practical caveats. A simple budget hotel in downtown Buenos Aires, scored for what it is.

El Misti is a simple budget hotel in Microcentro, and we'd pick it for sightseeing without paying for extras you won't use. Its biggest strengths are the walkable location near Florida Street and Galerías Pacífico, and a reception team that guests repeatedly praise for friendly, practical help. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews also regularly describe clean, comfortable rooms. For this class, it delivers good value rather than anything fancy.

The compromises are compact entry-level rooms, some reports of noise carrying between spaces, and breakfast arrangements that need checking: listings advertise it, but several recent guests say none was provided. A May 2026 guest also confirms that eighth-floor rooms require a final flight of stairs. We'd skip it if you need guaranteed step-free access, generous room space or full-service facilities; otherwise, it's a very good base for spending your days out.

  • Best for: Budget-minded sightseers; Solo travelers and couples; Short downtown stays

  • Watch out for: Confirm breakfast availability and inclusion; Compact rooms and some noise reports; Stairs to eighth-floor rooms

  • Location: Walkable Microcentro base near Florida Street, Galerías Pacífico, restaurants and transit.

  • Rooms: Simple, air-conditioned rooms; standard doubles are listed at 15 square meters.

  • Cleanliness: Generally strong feedback, including repeated praise in recent verified Expedia reviews.

  • Service: Friendly, multilingual reception is the most consistently praised feature.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, 24-hour reception and an outdoor terrace; facilities are otherwise limited.

  • Fees and surprises: Airport transfers cost extra; no onsite parking, and breakfast information conflicts with recent guest experiences.
