Axel's take: 8.1/10

A practical central base with excellent breakfast, but rooms and leisure facilities show their age. A traditional 4-star city hotel in central Retiro, scored for what it is.

Dolmen is a traditional 4-star city hotel in Retiro, strongest as a comfortable sightseeing base rather than a stylish retreat. We'd pick it for the walkable location near Plaza San Martín, helpful staff and generous buffet breakfast. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently rate cleanliness and service well, and recent reviews reinforce those strengths. It's a good fit for travelers who value practical comfort over contemporary design.

The trade-off is age: guests describe dated rooms and bathrooms, while pool and gym feedback suggests these are extras rather than reasons to book. Unreliable room Wi-Fi appears across sources, and some guests report weak air-conditioning. We'd skip it for work that depends on dependable internet or a wellness-focused stay. Confirm parking arrangements and tax requirements before arrival.

• Best for: First-time Buenos Aires sightseers; Families wanting a central base; Travelers prioritizing breakfast and service

• Watch out for: Unreliable room Wi-Fi; Dated rooms and leisure facilities; Some reports of weak air-conditioning

• Location: Central Retiro, close to San Martín metro and walkable to Teatro Colón and Florida Street.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable, but dated fittings and occasional cooling complaints temper expectations.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength in Booking.com ratings and recent Expedia guest feedback.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn repeated praise across booking and review sites.

• Amenities: Buffet breakfast, restaurant and heated indoor pool; the pool and gym draw mixed condition reports.

• Fees and surprises: Reserve parking ahead; Expedia lists a city tax and conditional VAT exemption for eligible foreign travelers.
