Axel's take: 7.4/10

A practical downtown base whose location outshines its aging rooms. an older, traditional 4-star in downtown Buenos Aires, scored for what it is.

Conte is an older, traditional 4-star on Avenida 9 de Julio, and we'd choose it for sightseeing convenience rather than polished surroundings. The Obelisco, subway connections and central attractions are close by. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and breakfast, with helpful staff another frequent positive. It's a sensible base for travelers who spend most of their day exploring.

The trade-off is upkeep. Across both sites, guests describe dated furniture and bathrooms, while weak air conditioning remains a recurring complaint; some recent visitors also report worn towels or delays replacing them. Traffic noise can intrude, so request a quieter room and confirm cooling arrangements before arrival. We'd skip it if reliable temperature control, contemporary interiors or consistently polished four-star service are priorities.

• Best for: first-time Buenos Aires sightseers; travelers prioritizing location over decor; short downtown stays

• Watch out for: dated rooms and bathroom fittings; inconsistent air conditioning; traffic noise in exposed rooms

• Location: Excellent central access to the Obelisco, subway lines and major downtown sights.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and often-praised room space, but dated furnishings and uneven maintenance.

• Cleanliness: Generally well rated, although worn linens and towel replenishment draw some complaints.

• Service: Helpfulness earns frequent praise; problem handling and English communication are less consistent.

• Amenities: Buffet breakfast, restaurant, bar and free Wi-Fi; no on-site parking.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a city tax; confirm applicable taxes and the final total before booking.
