Axel's take: 8.0/10

A strong riverside base, but the rooms don’t quite match the views. a conventional 4-star hotel on Buda’s Danube waterfront, scored for what it is.

Novotel Budapest Danube is a conventional 4-star on the quieter Buda waterfront, directly opposite Parliament. It’s a strong pick for sightseeing rather than stylish interiors: Batthyány Square’s metro and trams are nearby, and the restaurant makes the most of the river outlook. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, comfortable rooms and breakfast. Book an explicitly named Parliament-view category if that panorama is your priority; it isn’t standard across the hotel.

The trade-off is uneven upkeep. Recent Accor guests describe dated fittings and bathroom maintenance problems, while both Accor and Tripadvisor reviews flag heating or cooling that struggles during seasonal changeovers. Cleanliness is generally well rated, though recent housekeeping lapses deserve attention. We’d choose it for the setting and transport connections, but skip it if fresh interiors and dependable room-temperature control matter most.

• Best for: sightseers using public transport; couples booking Parliament views; travelers preferring a quieter Buda base

• Watch out for: seasonal heating and cooling limitations; dated fittings and uneven bathroom upkeep; Parliament views require the right room category

• Location: Buda riverfront opposite Parliament, a short walk from Batthyány Square’s metro and trams.

• Rooms: Comfortable overall, but dated fittings and recurring temperature-control complaints weaken the four-star experience.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall guest ratings, tempered by several recent reports of missed cleaning and unpleasant odors.

• Service: Helpful staff earn frequent praise, although complaint handling is not consistently strong.

• Amenities: Restaurant, bar, free Wi-Fi, gym and sauna; the hotel says gym and sauna access is complimentary.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and pets cost extra; breakfast inclusion depends on the booking, and river views are category-specific.
