Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong sightseeing base, provided you can live with compact rooms. a practical 4-star city hotel beside Kálvin tér, scored for what it is.

Mercure Budapest Korona is a practical 4-star city hotel whose biggest strength is making Budapest easy. Kálvin tér’s transport connections are close by, and guests repeatedly praise the convenient airport-bus access. We’d pick it for a short sightseeing break rather than a hotel-centered holiday. Recent Expedia and Accor guests consistently highlight helpful staff, clean rooms and a varied breakfast; Booking.com’s strong overall rating supports that positive picture.

Space is the main compromise: Accor lists entry-level doubles at 18 square meters, and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly describe tight bedrooms and bathrooms. Some also report frustrating seasonal temperature control. Breakfast and parking can cost extra, so check what your booking includes. Don’t rely on older pool-and-sauna listings: neither appears in Accor’s current amenities. We’d skip it if spacious rooms or spa facilities are priorities.

  • Best for: short sightseeing breaks; travelers using public transport; business travelers wanting a central base

  • Watch out for: compact bedrooms and bathrooms; seasonal temperature-control complaints; older pool-and-sauna listings are unconfirmed

  • Location: Beside Kálvin tér, with metro connections, airport-bus access and the Great Market Hall nearby.

  • Rooms: Entry-level doubles start at 18 square meters; room size is a recurring complaint.

  • Cleanliness: Recent feedback is predominantly positive, with strong cleanliness marks on Booking.com.

  • Service: Helpful, friendly staff receive repeated praise, though Tripadvisor reports some inconsistencies.

  • Amenities: Restaurant, bar, gym and free Wi-Fi; Accor does not currently list a pool or sauna.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast may be extra; parking, pets and arranged airport transfers carry charges, and city tax applies.
