#8 of 9 hotels in Belváros & Váci Street by Axel's take. Belváros & Váci Street is #4 of 8 places to stay in Budapest. The best hotels in Belváros & Váci Street, ranked · Where to stay in Budapest

Axel's take: 8.5/10

Choose it for Danube views and dependable service, not cutting-edge luxury. a traditional five-star riverfront hotel in central Budapest, scored for what it is.

InterContinental Budapest is a traditional five-star hotel whose strongest luxury is its position on the Danube. We'd choose it for a first visit, especially with a river-view room overlooking Buda Castle. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, cleanliness and generous breakfast. The indoor pool, spa and two restaurants make it a well-rounded base rather than simply a place to sleep.

The trade-off is the accommodation: recurring reports describe dated decor and tired, sometimes cramped bathrooms. That matters at five-star level, even though overall guest satisfaction remains strong. Book a river-view category explicitly rather than assuming every room gets the panorama, and check whether breakfast is included. We'd skip it if freshly renovated interiors and spacious, contemporary bathrooms matter more than location and service.

  • Best for: first-time Budapest visitors; couples booking Danube views; travelers who prioritize attentive service

  • Watch out for: dated room decor; some cramped, tired bathrooms; river views depend on room category

  • Location: Excellent Pest-side promenade setting near Chain Bridge, central sights and tram connections.

  • Rooms: Generally comfortable, with memorable river-facing views, but recurring complaints about dated finishes and small bathrooms.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength in guest feedback, including recent Expedia reviews.

  • Service: Staff and concierge helpfulness receive repeated praise across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

  • Amenities: Indoor pool, spa, fitness center and two restaurants; breakfast is frequently praised.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking and pets carry extra charges; confirm breakfast inclusion and book the desired view explicitly.
