#4 of 9 hotels in Castle District & Víziváros by Axel's take. Castle District & Víziváros is #7 of 8 places to stay in Budapest. The best hotels in Castle District & Víziváros, ranked · Where to stay in Budapest

Axel's take: 9.0/10

A characterful Castle District retreat with excellent rooms, but breakfast needs more consistency. a family-owned 4-star boutique hotel in Buda’s Castle District, scored for what it is.

Baltazár is a family-owned 4-star boutique hotel in Buda’s Castle District, and a strong pick for travelers who prefer character and quiet evenings to big-hotel facilities. Individually decorated rooms, a grill restaurant and a wine bar give it a distinct personality. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, comfortable accommodation and helpful staff; the generous suites are particularly appealing for families.

The main compromise is breakfast: recent Booking.com and Tripadvisor reviews describe occasional long waits, limited choices or upgrade charges, despite plenty of praise for the food. Confirm exactly what your booking includes. The hilltop setting suits Castle District sightseeing better than frequent trips into Pest’s nightlife, although buses stop nearby. We’d choose it for a relaxed, small-hotel stay, not a nightlife-first weekend.

  • Best for: couples seeking a quiet, characterful base; Castle District sightseeing; families booking a spacious suite

  • Watch out for: breakfast waits and package differences; hilltop location away from Pest nightlife; paid public parking rather than a private lot

  • Location: Quiet Castle District setting, with sights walkable and buses nearby.

  • Rooms: Individual designs and comfortable suites; four additional suites opened in 2025.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Tripadvisor and Expedia feedback.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff draw repeated praise; breakfast service is less consistent.

  • Amenities: Grill restaurant, wine bar, terrace, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi.

  • Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusions and upgrade charges; public parking and pets cost extra.
