#9 of 9 hotels in Jewish Quarter by Axel's take. Jewish Quarter is #5 of 8 places to stay in Budapest. The best hotels in Jewish Quarter, ranked · Where to stay in Budapest

Axel's take: 7.6/10

Good budget practicality and location, but quiet nights aren't guaranteed. a large budget chain hostel with dorms and private rooms in central Pest, scored for what it is.

a&o Budapest City is a large budget chain hostel, not a conventional hotel, with dorms and private rooms in lively Erzsébetváros. It’s a good pick for an inexpensive city break: cafés, nightlife and tram connections are nearby, and the lounge gives groups somewhere to gather. Booking.com and Expedia guests regularly praise the location, helpful staff and value; recent Hostelworld reviews also describe comfortable beds and clean rooms.

The trade-off is consistency. Courtyard noise and school groups feature in complaints, while housekeeping and shared-kitchen upkeep get mixed reports. Tripadvisor feedback is markedly harsher than the larger booking-site samples, so don’t expect uniformly smooth service. Breakfast and parking cost extra. We'd choose it for a short, practical stay, but skip it if uninterrupted sleep or reliably spotless shared facilities are priorities.

  • Best for: budget city breaks; friends and groups; travelers wanting private-room and dorm options

  • Watch out for: courtyard and group noise; uneven housekeeping; mixed reports on shared-kitchen upkeep

  • Location: Central Pest base near cafés and nightlife, with tram stops roughly five minutes away.

  • Rooms: Simple dorms and private rooms with en-suite facilities; air conditioning is listed, but noise can undermine comfort.

  • Cleanliness: Mostly positive across larger booking sites, with recurring exceptions in bathrooms and shared spaces.

  • Service: Often friendly and helpful, though check-in and problem handling receive some criticism.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, 24-hour reception, bar, lounge, guest kitchen and laundry.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast and parking are extra; checkout is at 10 a.m., with paid late checkout subject to availability.
