Axel's take: 9.1/10

A standout downtown boutique with thoughtful extras and consistently strong service. an upscale 4-star boutique hotel in downtown Boise, scored for what it is.

Inn at 500 Capitol is an upscale 4-star boutique that delivers where it counts: spotless rooms, comfortable beds and genuinely helpful staff. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise all three, alongside a location made for exploring downtown on foot. Local artwork, themed rooms and gas fireplaces give it personality; complimentary pantry snacks, welcome drinks and loaner bikes add substance. A property refresh completed in May 2025 keeps the presentation current.

The trade-offs are mostly practical. Hotel parking is paid valet-only, and some street-facing rooms pick up traffic noise; light sleepers should request a quieter room away from Myrtle Street. Hemlock, the steakhouse that replaced Richard’s, gets plenty of praise but can be lively rather than intimate. We’d choose this for a comfortable city break, not a hushed retreat.

  • Best for: couples on a downtown weekend; business travelers who prefer boutiques; travelers exploring Boise without a car

  • Watch out for: paid valet-only hotel parking; traffic noise in some street-facing rooms; lively steakhouse atmosphere

  • Location: Walkable downtown setting near restaurants, museums, Julia Davis Park and the Greenbelt.

  • Rooms: Distinctive themed decor, fireplaces and plush bedding; choose a balcony category if that matters.

  • Cleanliness: Consistently strong praise for spotless rooms across recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Google reviews.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff and prompt valet service are recurring strengths.

  • Amenities: Hemlock steakhouse, 24-hour gym, free bikes and pantry snacks; complimentary shuttle requires advance arrangement and availability.

  • Fees and surprises: Valet parking and pets incur fees; the property refresh was completed in May 2025.
