#1 of 9 hotels in Alexanderplatz & Nikolaiviertel by Axel's take. Alexanderplatz & Nikolaiviertel is #4 of 12 places to stay in Berlin. The best hotels in Alexanderplatz & Nikolaiviertel, ranked · Where to stay in Berlin

Axel's take: 8.9/10

A smart Berlin base with thoughtful design, strong cleanliness and a few practical catches. a design-led, self-check-in apartment hotel in central Berlin, scored for what it is.

The Charming is a design-led apartment hotel near Alexanderplatz, and a strong pick if you prefer independence to a staffed lobby. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the cleanliness, comfortable beds and clever interiors; recent reviews also credit fast, helpful remote support. Most units have kitchenettes, making this particularly useful for families who want somewhere to prepare simple meals.

Choose the layout carefully: some second beds sit on mezzanines reached by steep steps or ladders, with limited headroom, and smaller units can feel tight for four. Digital entry suits confident smartphone users better than travelers wanting reception on hand. Some guests report street noise, while lift information conflicts across booking sites. We'd skip it if easy access or traditional hotel service is essential; otherwise, it delivers very well for its class.

Best for: families with older children; independent city-break travelers; couples wanting self-catering space
Watch out for: steep mezzanine access and low headroom; phone-based entry rather than traditional reception; some street noise; confirm lift access
Location: Central Mitte, within walking distance of Alexanderplatz and several rail connections.
Rooms: Thoughtful modern layouts and comfortable beds; check floor area and second-bed access before booking.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com and Expedia, including recent guest reports.
Service: Remote support earns frequent praise for friendly communication and quick problem handling.
Amenities: Wi-Fi and luggage storage; kitchenettes in most units, but not Boutique Curt for 2.
Fees and surprises: Cash is not accepted; lift listings conflict, so confirm access directly if stairs are a problem.
