#1 of 9 hotels in Friedrichshain by Axel's take. Friedrichshain is #8 of 12 places to stay in Berlin. The best hotels in Friedrichshain, ranked · Where to stay in Berlin

Axel's take: 8.9/10

Distinctive design and serious comfort, with a tram ride between you and the sights. an upscale design hotel in Berlin’s Friedrichshain, scored for what it is.

sly Berlin is an upscale design hotel that delivers more than good-looking interiors. Restored buildings and courtyards surround a glass-roofed restaurant, while the rooftop sauna gives it an edge over conventional city hotels. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the comfortable beds, cleanliness and breakfast. It’s a strong pick for couples and design-minded travelers who want somewhere worth returning to after exploring Berlin.

The compromise is convenience: nearby trams are useful, but the main sights and livelier neighborhood streets aren’t all on your doorstep. Several guests report overly warm rooms or frustrating temperature controls, and service feedback is mostly enthusiastic rather than uniformly polished. Breakfast costs extra unless included, parking is charged, and there’s no room service. We’d skip it if walk-everywhere sightseeing or full-service luxury matters most.

Best for: design-minded couples; return visitors comfortable using trams; city breaks with sauna downtime
Watch out for: tram rides needed for much sightseeing; recurring reports of overly warm rooms; breakfast and parking extras
Location: Friedrichshain base near several tram lines; less convenient for sightseeing entirely on foot.
Rooms: Comfortable beds, distinctive interiors and rain showers; temperature controls draw recurring complaints.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com and Expedia, with overwhelmingly positive feedback.
Service: Staff are frequently praised, though some guests describe uneven warmth or follow-through.
Amenities: Glass-roofed restaurant, bar, rooftop sauna and 24-hour gym; the hotel confirms elevators and accessible rooms.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast may be extra; garage parking is charged, dogs are welcome for a fee, and room service is unavailable.
