Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong sightseeing base with impressive public spaces, though service sometimes falls short. a large, contemporary 5-star hotel beside Berlin Cathedral, scored for what it is.

This large 5-star in Mitte is a strong pick for sightseeing with proper hotel comforts. Museum Island and Berlin Cathedral are on the doorstep, and recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise comfortable rooms, generous breakfasts and friendly staff. Reopened in February 2025, it now has a towering Living Tree installation where the famous aquarium once stood. The indoor pool and sauna add welcome downtime after walking the city.

The reservation is consistency rather than location: several recent guests describe slow problem-solving, missed housekeeping details or awkward check-in experiences—noticeable shortcomings at this level, despite the overwhelmingly positive feedback. Street-facing balconies can also bring traffic noise, and some rooms overlook the atrium rather than Berlin. We'd choose it for a comfortable cultural city break, but skip it if flawless, highly personal luxury service is the priority.

• Best for: first-time Berlin sightseers; museum-focused city breaks; travelers wanting a pool and sauna

• Watch out for: occasionally inconsistent service and housekeeping; traffic noise at street-facing balconies; atrium-view rooms lack an outdoor outlook

• Location: Excellent Mitte base beside the cathedral and Museum Island, with several transit options nearby.

• Rooms: Entry rooms are 27 square meters; select the room category carefully for cathedral, balcony or atrium views.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall guest feedback, with some recent reports of missed cleaning details and stained towels.

• Service: Usually friendly and helpful, but resolving room problems is not consistently five-star.

• Amenities: Indoor pool, sauna, gym, spa treatments, San Éna restaurant and Atrium Bar.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and pets carry charges; check breakfast inclusion. The former aquarium is gone.
