Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong central Berlin base, especially if you secure a quieter room. an upscale 4-star city hotel beside Friedrichstraße station, scored for what it is.

This upscale 4-star beside Friedrichstraße station is a strong pick for seeing Berlin without wasting time getting around. Museum Island and Brandenburg Gate are walkable, with trains and trams practically on the doorstep. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, clean, comfortable rooms and an unusually extensive breakfast. We'd choose it for a straightforward, comfortable city break or business trip rather than a hotel-centered escape.

The station is also the main compromise: several guests report train noise, although others find the windows effective. Request a room away from the tracks, particularly if you're a light sleeper. Breakfast earns plenty of praise but can feel expensive for a small appetite; check whether it's included. Parking costs extra and cannot be reserved. We'd skip it if guaranteed quiet matters more than transport convenience.

• Best for: first-time Berlin sightseeing; business travelers; car-free city breaks

• Watch out for: train noise in some rooms; breakfast may cost extra; paid parking cannot be reserved

• Location: Excellent transport access beside Friedrichstraße station; major Mitte sights are walkable.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and well equipped; room orientation makes a difference to noise.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall guest ratings, with recent reviews repeatedly praising clean rooms.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception and attentive breakfast staff are recurring strengths.

• Amenities: Restaurant, bar, free Wi-Fi, a 24-hour gym, sauna and relaxation area.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; parking and pets carry extra charges, and parking cannot be reserved.
