#6 of 9 hotels in Unter den Linden & Gendarmenmarkt by Axel's take. Unter den Linden & Gendarmenmarkt is #2 of 12 places to stay in Berlin. The best hotels in Unter den Linden & Gendarmenmarkt, ranked · Where to stay in Berlin

Axel's take: 8.5/10

A comfortable sightseeing base with standout breakfast and a few dated edges. a large, upscale 4-star city hotel near Checkpoint Charlie, scored for what it is.

This large, upscale 4-star is a strong pick for seeing Berlin without spending much time getting around. Stadtmitte U-Bahn is close, and Checkpoint Charlie and Gendarmenmarkt are easy walks. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, comfortable beds and generous breakfast; cleanliness also scores well across Booking.com and Expedia. We'd choose it for practical comfort and convenience rather than boutique character.

The main compromise is that some bathrooms feel older than the rest of the hotel, with compact layouts and shower-over-bath arrangements. Noise varies by room position, so light sleepers should request a courtyard-facing room. Breakfast and garage parking can add to the bill. We'd skip it if freshly updated bathrooms or a small, intimate hotel matter more than location.

  • Best for: first-time Berlin sightseers; business travelers; families wanting connecting rooms

  • Watch out for: some dated, compact bathrooms; noise varies by room position; breakfast and parking cost extra

  • Location: Central, walkable sightseeing base with Stadtmitte U-Bahn a short walk away.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds; some bathrooms show their age; courtyard-facing rooms are the quieter option.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength, supported by strong Booking.com and Expedia cleanliness ratings.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff receive repeated praise, though check-in queues sometimes occur.

  • Amenities: Restaurant, bar and an eighth-floor wellness area with gym, sauna and steam bath.

  • Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; garage parking, pets and massages carry extra charges.
