Axel's take: 9.0/10

Old-world character, excellent breakfasts and a quieter Berlin base make this a strong pick. a historic, independently run 4-star townhouse hotel in Prenzlauer Berg, scored for what it is.

Myer's is a historic 4-star townhouse hotel for travelers who prefer neighborhood character to a big-chain setting. We'd pick it for its combination of comfortable beds, individually furnished rooms and a quiet Prenzlauer Berg street near restaurants and public transport. Recent Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the breakfast, cleanliness and helpful staff; the cocktail bar earns particular affection. The garden and basement sauna area give it more appeal than a place simply to sleep.

The main decision is room category: Comfort Small rooms measure just 15–20 square meters, and some guests find the smaller rooms cramped or dark. Choose a larger category if space matters. The traditional decor won't suit minimalists, the gym is off-site and costs extra, and the bar closes Sundays and Mondays. We'd skip it if you want a contemporary hotel right among the major sights.

• Best for: couples who enjoy traditional boutique hotels; travelers seeking restaurants and neighborhood life; city breaks with quiet evenings

• Watch out for: smallest rooms can feel cramped or dark; off-site gym with an access charge; bar closed Sundays and Mondays

• Location: Quiet Prenzlauer Berg side street, with restaurants nearby and convenient tram and U-Bahn connections.

• Rooms: Individual traditional furnishings and adjustable air conditioning; Comfort Small rooms are 15–20 square meters.

• Cleanliness: Strong cleanliness ratings across major sites, reinforced by recent guest comments.

• Service: Helpful reception staff and welcoming bar service are recurring strengths.

• Amenities: Well-regarded breakfast, garden, cocktail bar and Finnish, steam and infrared saunas; fitness club nearby.

• Fees and surprises: Fitness-club access costs extra; nearby public parking is paid, and the bar does not open daily.
