Axel's take: 8.3/10

A dependable central base with a proper pool, but rooms show their age. a large, traditional 4-star business hotel in central Berlin, scored for what it is.

Maritim proArte is a large, traditional 4-star business hotel whose strongest asset is its Friedrichstraße location. We'd pick it for comfortable sightseeing rather than contemporary design: major sights are walkable, and nearby rail connections make exploring straightforward. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, helpful reception staff and the generous breakfast. The indoor pool is a worthwhile extra after a day on foot.

The trade-off is an older business-hotel feel, with dated furnishings recurring across review sites. Some recent guests also report warm rooms and ineffective cooling, so temperature-sensitive sleepers should check before booking. Pool access is included, but the hotel charges separately for the sauna and small gym. It's a strong practical choice; we'd skip it for fresh interiors or an extensive, all-inclusive spa experience.

• Best for: first-time Berlin sightseers; business travelers; city-break travelers who want a pool

• Watch out for: dated room furnishings; some reports of ineffective cooling; sauna and gym cost extra

• Location: Central Mitte address near Friedrichstraße and Unter den Linden stations, convenient for sights on foot.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and spacious, but older furnishings and some cooling complaints temper the appeal.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength in recent guest feedback, supported by strong booking-site cleanliness ratings.

• Service: Reception staff earn frequent praise; occasional complaints concern breakfast service and problem handling.

• Amenities: Indoor pool, breakfast buffet, restaurant and bar; the gym is small rather than a full fitness club.

• Fees and surprises: Pool included; sauna, gym and parking are charged separately, with bathrobe rental fees in some room categories.
